Ashton-Sandy Spring
Neighborhood in Sandy Spring, Maryland
Montgomery County 20860, 20861, 20905
Midway between DC and Baltimore is the small community of Ashton-Sandy Spring, where pastoral views meet easily accessible shopping and dining. In Ashton-Sandy Spring, locals get the peace and quiet of rural life with the convenience of suburban living.
This neighborhood is made up of several subdivisions branching off two-lane country highways. Multiple planned developments exist in Ashton-Sandy Spring, with some dating back to the 1960s and others built in the early 2000s. These developments are equipped with well-maintained sidewalks and tree-lined streets, perfect for evening strolls and bike rides. Houses range in style and price, from 1960s split levels priced from $550,000 to $700,000, to modern colonial-inspired custom builds for $1 million to $1.3 million. “There are several new developments in the area,” says Tony Zowd, a realtor with Integrity Plus Network of Coldwell Banker Realty. “When space opens for development in the DC metropolitan area, you know it’s going to be built on quickly! This is a very in-demand area.” Outside of the planned developments, individual houses on multi-acre woodland lots can sell for $600,000 to $800,000. These houses do not have sidewalks and are far from neighbors with a more rural feel.
The Montgomery County Public School District is a draw for the area. Students may attend Sherwood Elementary School, rated A by Niche, William H. Farquhar Middle School, and Sherwood High School. “Schools are a huge factor for many people considering moving here,” says Zowd, “because the district is highly ranked and regarded as one of the best in the state.” Sherwood High School has just over 1,750 students and a student-teacher ratio of 15 to 1.
