Situated roughly halfway between Washington, D.C., and Baltimore, Olney is a suburb with beer bars, a vibrant youth sports program and brick colonials on cul-de-sacs. Locals visit the farmers market on the weekends, enjoy the area’s many walking trails and parks and watch live performances at the theater. D.C. and Baltimore are about an hour away by car, and two Metro stations sit within 15 minutes of Olney. The community is close-knit, a mixture of generational families and new residents. “We see a lot of original homeowners who are selling their homes to retire to warmer climates, which in turn brings a lot of first-time homebuyers into the neighborhoods,” says Tony Krichbaum, an Olney native and Realtor with the Karen Rollings Team of eXp Realty. “There are people who stay in Olney for a very long time, but at the same time, we know a lot of people or have sold a lot of homes to people who have no allegiance to Olney and are starting their lives here.”
